Who We Are

Saoirse is the Marquette Irish Dance Team, a club that focuses on incorporating Irish Dance and culture into college students’ lives while pursuing their studies. Saoirse brings community to the Irish Dancers at Marquette and introduces Irish traditions to those who are looking to find a place to belong. We put out a showcase during the spring semester, guest perform for other Marquette organizations, perform at various off campus locations, and compete at CIDA events and the Mid America Oireachtas.

  • Some of our members remain competitive in college! In the 2022-2023 school year, freshman Brigid Gannon and Rose Meschi competed at the Mid-Atlantic Oireachtas, as well as the NAIDC in Nashville, TN. Brigid also competed in the 2023 All Ireland’s! Congratulations Brigid and Rose on all your hard work!

  • At the University of Dayton, Saoirse competed for the first time. Congratulations to Callie and Rose for taking first and second in the freshman treble reel!

  • Congratulations to sophomores Brigid Gannon and Rose Meschi for continuing your solo training through college. Congratulations Brigid on placing 11 in the Mid-Atlantic Oireachtas and 40 at the 2023 NAIDC. Congratulations Rose on placing 12 at the Mid-America Oireachtas and 25 at the 2023 NAIDC.

  • In 2024, Saoirse attended the midwest collegiate competition at Purdue University. Congratulations to our four hand reel for taking first place and our eight hand (St. Patrick’s Day) for taking second place.

    We’d also like to congratulate our treble reel winners, with Hannah taking third in the freshman competition, Callie taking home first place and Brigid third in the sophomore competition, and Clare taking third in the senior competition. Saoirse also had the honor of coming second in the fun number, debuting our Taylor Swift mashup at this competition!

  • We are so proud of the teams we sent to Schaumberg, IL for the 2024 Oireachtas. Saoirse took home the title of Oireachtas champions for the college 4-hand and 8-hand competitions, as well as taking home fifth place in the four hand, making a 100% recall for Saoirse at Oireachtas this year. Congratulations to Alannah, Callie, Molly, and Rose for winning the four-hand competition. We’d like to celebrate Abbie, Alannah, Allison, Callie, Elise, Grace, Kyla, and Rose for winning the eight hand. Abbie, Annie, Elise, and Lauren, congratulations on your four hand medal!
